C. Ross Hatton, MPA

PhD Candidate, Research Specialist

About

I am a PhD Candidate in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

My research agenda consists of three primary areas. First, I use public opinion data to better understand Americans' attitudes towards and understanding of the U.S. social safety net. Second, I use mixed methods to understand how people make use of social policies and how those policies improve their health, with a specific focus on health outcomes related to food and nutrition (e.g., food insufficiency and insecurity, obesity, etc.). Third, as a part of my role as a Research Specialist with the Criminal Justice Innovation Lab at UNC-Chapel Hill, I work with stakeholders across North Carolina to improve and evaluate pretrial criminal justice policies and procedures (e.g., bail setting  practices).  My work has been published in peer reviewed journals such as The American Journal of Preventive Medicine, Daedalus, and Preventive Medicine.
